Harvested at optimum levels of ripeness and acidity, this wine was a prime candidate for barrel fermentation. A portion of the must began spontaneous fermentation in stainless steel, with a cultivated yeast intended to highlight citrus fruit character added 7 days later. The remaining juice was wild fermented in new French oak barriques, followed by a secondary malolactic fermentation in the same barrel. Bâtonnage occured daily for the first 6 months of barrel aging. The two components were then blended together and allowed to marry for a further 2 months in stainless steel.

Tasting Notes: A rich, yet acid-driven style that will continue to age for 8+ years. Notes of beeswax, yellow peach, and fig fill the glass while the palate is full of mandarin-laden citrus framed by a kiss of French oak. Shellfish or rich white meat dishes are the perfect match.

Farm Notes: With over 200 acres of estate vineyards planted as far back as 1968, Mt. Boucherie is home to some of the oldest plantings in British Columbia. Original Vines focuses on farming and crafting wines that singularly express the most unique blocks of these heritage plantings. All of the vineyard blocks chosen for the Original Vines Collection were planted before the year 2000.

BLOCK 12 | PLANTED 1990

Maker Notes: This vineyard is located in Okanagan Falls, overlooking Vaseux Lake and McIntyre Bluff. First planted in 1990, it is home to a diverse collection of grape varieties and some of our favourite blocks. The soils feature mounds of glacially deposited rock with glaciofluvial sands and gravels.
